Abstract

Research supports that music can improve social/emotional, behavioral, and cognitive well-being. However, research has not demonstrated how these things can happen simultaneously and specifically in a classroom setting. In a classroom setting, you need social/emotional, behavioral, and cognitive needs to be met in order to learn and thrive in that environment, which makes music's impact on all of these aspects so important. My goal as a future educator is to find a way to incorporate what I love, music, into my classroom to help my students develop, work through challenges, and learn. I want to be a teacher because I know what a large impact teachers have on their students and how their help can inspire students for the rest of their lives. In order to do so, I created a literature review based on empirical articles that have informed my knowledge of music’s benefits in the classroom. This Literature Review allowed me to create resources that would most effectively positively impact students.
